Perhaps the most logical and important next step for the Northfield Music Collective is to develop a formal statement of our mission. What do we stand for? What do we mean to accomplish?

The Northfield Music Collective was conceived around two very important principles, that 1) Northfield bears a unique concentration of musical talent, and 2) that we musicians of Northfield ought to work together in a manner that promotes the development of that talent as a whole; it seems to me that these principles ought to be central to any mission statement we put forward.

Beyond that, however, I invite the Collective members proclaimed herein to offer their thoughts. I repeat, what do we stand for? What can our group, currently a collection of musicians and supporters on a website, do to advance the musical endeavors of Northfield, Minnesota in the world at large?

Please feel free and encouraged to contribute. The discussion that will hopefully follow will comprise the basis of our continued mission, and it ought to be one of which all interested parties are a part.

Optimistically,
The Northfield Music Collective

I've been using this slogan on my postcards for ArtOnWater Gallery since Dec 2007: "Northfield ...a full pallet of arts, eats and entertainment". While I agree that Northfield has a unique concentration of musical talent, and working together to promote the development of that talent is a fine principal, my efforts both with my art gallery and with the Riverwalk Arts Quarter is 'arts entrepreneurship' which means if we support artists by stimulating their connection with a patron base (and in other ways), both the artists and the community will thrive. The goal is a vibrant local economy based on the collective exploitation of our valuable assets - and this means bringing others like us to our town to connect with our artists and patronize our arts, eats and entertainment venues (dropping a little money into our economy). Certainly, if the website is for the artists, this message reminder should be ever before their eyes. If the website is to be a connector between performing artists (musicians) and patrons, the frank statement can be hidden, but the invitation to come and to support must be part of the message. Create expectations and meet them. Dean
