Hello all,
The website has garnered 36 members, which by extension indicates that the Northfield Music Collective likewise has 36 members. So, I inquire of you--the founding members of the Northfield Music Collective--in what direction would you like to move forward?

While this site was conceived as a means for centralizing the musical communications of Northfield, MN, the Northfield Music Collective as an entity was conceived for a greater purpose--to formalize the uniquely concentrated musical talent that exists in our town and to announce our importance to the world beyond our borders.

As we are beginning to develop a good base for our Collective, I'd like to hear what people would like to see come of it: a mission statement or statement of purpose? some sort of formal announcement of conception? I had hoped from the very beginning that the Northfield Music Collective would burst forth into existence with a raucous and heterogeneous super-concert, with local media given an ample heads-up...

Anyways, I would be very happy to hear people's thoughts, and please, continue to encourage people to join this site and this discussion. The Collective is based in the belief that Northfield is truly something special, and that the world deserves to know this...

I'm supportive. What is next?

Since NMC is all about music, why not have an informal all-day concert - say a Sunday in the non-too-distant future with a separate, quieter area for planning and discussion that people can dip in and out of. Beer and sandwiches (or pizza) would complete the scenario. Use one set of equipment so that musicians can just plug 'n play, including a drum set and keyboard.
Venue - perhaps one of the colleges, a pole barn, or a local downtown watering hole..?

Hi Peter,
I think you have a great concept here. Would you like me to forward your email to the bands I know?
I would be happy to help in any way I can.
Thanks!
Julie
I certainly like the idea of a concert in the interest of planning and publicity. Before we do so, however, I think we should have at least the outlines of a mission statement... what, ultimately, does the Northfield Music Collective stand for / stand to do? I have created a separate discussion on that topic where I encourage further thoughts to be directed.
